Logline:
Puerto Ricans work against all odds to remain in their land and build the country of their dreams.
Synopsis:
When the world as you know it collapses, who can you trust to survive?
Category Five Hurricane Maria marked the beginning of a lost decade in Puerto Rico, the world’s oldest colony. Today, 60% of the population lives in poverty while the country’s bankruptcy fuels a form of development that forces entire communities out of their homeland. Yet families, friends, and neighbors defy the forces that threaten their survival.
From the town of Aguadilla to the island of Vieques, from the countryside of Yabucoa to the mangroves of Loíza, a pitirre bird leads us across Puerto Rico, where communities respond to life-threatening challenges through mutual aid initiatives. Stories of solidarity and perseverance intertwine with the movement of the earth and the sea, suggesting that even when all seems lost, another Puerto Rico is possible.
