The Coqui Sings

Logline:

A teen chasing a fleeting crush and an elder holding onto memory find an unexpected connection through the coquí’s song, a timeless call of love, loss, and home.

Synopsis:

Inside a small Puerto Rican cultural museum in San Diego, Ana, a lively teenager completing her community service hours, is eager to close for the day and meet her crush. Her plans are interrupted when Sandra, an elderly Puerto Rican woman, enters after hearing the familiar song of the coquí playing from inside. Drawn by a sound that reminds her of home, Sandra lingers among the exhibits and begins sharing stories of Puerto Rico while questioning Ana about young love. As Ana grows increasingly impatient, an uncomfortable exchange reveals that Sandra’s memories are connected to Francisco, her late husband. Faced with another opportunity to leave, Ana instead plays the coquí’s song and invites Sandra to stay. Through their unexpected connection, Ana discovers how love, memory, and culture can endure across generations and continue calling us home.
