Synopsis:
In 1850 Puerto Rico, thirteen-year-old Adina, a “mulata” of mixed heritage, is hidden away at an Hacienda, cared for by her half-brother Pablo and her nanny Yeji. When she discovers the Bomba dance, a connection to her African roots, she’s rejected because of her skin color. Determined to belong, Adina fights to prove herself as a bomba dancer. As she gains acceptance, she’s faced with a choice: stay hidden but safe under the wing of her loving brother or embrace the freedom of her cultural identity even if it means putting her life at risk.
