CONCEPCIÓN is a documentary that celebrates the life, music, and enduring legacy of maestro César Concepción (Cesario Concepción Martínez, 1909–1974), one of the principal architects of twentieth-century Puerto Rican popular music.

A virtuoso trumpeter, gifted melodist, composer of hundreds of works, and leader of one of Puerto Rico’s most celebrated orchestras, César Concepción played a defining role in shaping the island’s musical identity. His innovative orchestral arrangements helped elevate Puerto Rican plena from its popular roots to prestigious ballrooms, theaters, and international stages, while preserving the unmistakable rhythms and character of Puerto Rico.
