A film showcasing the gastronomy and culture of Puerto Rico through the lens of the director’s own family. From Cabo Rojo to Orocovis to Carolina, six different restaurants and a piragua stand are in this bilingual documentary.
Synopsis:
Comida y familia is a documentary exploring the food and gastronomic culture of Puerto Rico. The film mostly features restaurants where the filmmaker has personal or sentimental connections, such as El Gallo Pinto in Guayama—a restaurant owned by the filmmakers cousin—and King’s Cream in Ponce—an ice cream shop the family has been visiting for decades. While many locations were chosen for their memories, some restaurants were chosen due to their culinary significance in Puerto Rican cuisine, such as Lechonera Los Pinos in Cayey and Restaurante La Sombra in Orocovis.
