Logline:
500 years later…the battle continues…pero siempre volvemos.
Synopsis:
Siempre Volvemos is my expression that tells the story of the Chicano struggle, centered around East Side San Jose’s beloved, but definitely not forgotten “Mural De La Raza” that was illegally destroyed back in August 2018. As gentrification has continued to spread rampantly through our community, the apparition of La Virgen de Guadalupe after the destruction has stood on a giant blank grey wall since that time. Holding off further damage to the East Side while awaiting and urging for the community to reawaken again and fight back!
We also showcased some of the different aspects of the mural, tying into our indigenous history, our 500 years of struggle, as well as displaying the importance of having pride in our Chicano roots. And although we may not have the physical images from the wall right now…we still have all of our murals cultural and historical images present within each other in our hearts.
